Osborne to step down before election

Tatton MP George Osborne stepping down

Tatton MP George Osborne has announced that he is stepping down from Parliament before the general election, recently announced by Prime Minister Theresa May for June 8 2017.

The member for Tatton is about to take up his controversial new role as editor of the London Evening Standard and presumably will wish to focus on this venture in the short term.

According to an interview given to the London Evening Standard, Mr Osborne intends to remain active in the debate about the future of the country, and no doubt will be seeking to exert some influence via the Evening Standard.  He has also made it clear that he remains committed to supporting the Northern Powerhouse intiative.

Whether he intends to return to politics in the future will remain to be seen.

George Osborne has been the MP for Tatton since being elected in 2001. At the time, he was the youngest conservative member of the house of commons.
