Chester Road London Road junction closed

Posted by on August 17, 2015

Major roadworks affecting Holmes Chapel this August

As you’ll have noticed if you’ve been anywhere in or around Holmes Chapel today, the junction where Chester Road meets London Road is currently closed for roadworks.

Obviously this is a major pain in the rear as it only leaves Middlewich Road as a route through the village to or from Middlewich and the M6 (though you could go via Knutsford Road and then Byley or Northwich Road but it’s a bit of a trek) and if the M6 has an incident, as it frequently does, then the traffic is likely to become even more unbearable than usual.

So, please allow more time if travelling – the work is expected to be completed in two weeks (hopefully in time for the schools going back otherwise god help us). Apparently the work is needed because a manhole has collapsed (it’s being completed by United Utilities). You can still access the Portree Estate, Leisure Centre and West Way and Milling Field etc. via Chester Road.

Current traffic chaos in and around Holmes Chapel, all due to one collapsed manhole, obviously reinforces the case for a proper ring road around the village to carry all through traffic north-south and east-west (and vice-versa). Local residents have been campaigning years for this, but nothing has been done by local councils or Highways Agency. Time to change the elected representation come the next local and national elections!
